Outside Lands, San Francisco’s biggest music festival, has released its full schedule for the weekend (Aug. 11-13 in Golden Gate Park).
That means it’s time for attendees to start planning—and start making hard choices over the inevitable time conflicts.
As an indication of how much more important hip-hop has become within festival culture over the past few years, both Janelle Monáe and Kendrick Lamar will take the main stage (Lands End) back-to-back on Friday evening. Lamar, a Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper, is up against Zedd and Interpol.
On Saturday, the Foo Fighters—this year’s closest thing to a legacy rock act—will headline at the same time as Lana Del Rey and Fisher, while on Sunday night attendees be forced to choose among Odesza, the 1975 and Noah Kahan—which already has many ticket holders in a lather.
New this year is the Dolores stage, which deputizes Fake and Gay, Oasis and Hard French to program a three-day queer dance party with local LGBTQ+ talent like DJ Rubella, an Ah-Mer-Ah-Su DJ set and a performance by rising icon Beverly Chills.
As per usual, there’s a hard sound cutoff at 10 p.m. the first two nights and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. This year may be the festival’s final year as a single weekend, as organizer Another Planet Entertainment is looking to take a page from Coachella and expand to a second weekend in 2024, although with different programming.
