Modesto-born actor Jeremy Renner is in intensive care after being injured in a snow plow accident on New Year’s Day, according to the Reno Gazette Journal

Renner’s publicist Samantha Mast informed CNN the Avengers star was clearing snow from his Nevada driveway Sunday night before the accident occurred. He was airlifted to a Reno hospital with blunt chest trauma.

According to Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, Renner was assisting a stranded motorist at the time of the accident. The Reno area received up to a foot and half of snow on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, the National Weather Service reported

Renner’s family released a statement Monday confirming the accident and thanking first responders and hospital staff, also noting they were “tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”

The Avengers and Hawkeye actor also starred in Kill the Messenger, a 2014 film about San Jose Mercury News reporter Gary Webb.
