3 Dead in Fatal Crash on Highway 101

UPDATE: All lanes blocked by the collision were reopened as of around 9 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol.

Northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 101 just south of Fair Oaks Avenue in Sunnyvale were closed early Monday morning as California Highway Patrol officers investigated a collision involving multiple vehicles and fatalities, according to preliminary reports to CHP and other media outlets.

The collision occurred at about 12:30 a.m. A CHP report at 12:44 a.m. reported five patients with multiple vehicle rollovers. Three male pedestrians were killed in the collisions, according to CHP. Further information about the victims was not available as of publication.

As of 7:03 a.m., CHP reported that there was a severe traffic alert and a traffic collision with injuries on northbound and southbound U.S. 101 south of North Fair Oaks Avenue in Sunnyvale.

All lanes remained blocked as of 7:03 a.m., according to 511.org. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes, and there was no estimated reopening time for the lanes.

Traffic controls were set up as of 2:30 a.m. to divert traffic onto Lawrence Expressway.
