An Oakland bakery owner was attacked and robbed while sitting in a car in the city's downtown on Monday.

The attacker broke into the occupied car just before 12:30 p.m. and stole belongings before returning to a waiting vehicle nearby, Oakland Police Department said.

The victim got out of her car and attempted to get her possessions back but was knocked to the ground on Webster Street where she sustained injuries, police said.

Police say she was then hospitalized and is currently stabilized but in a critical condition.

KPFA radio host and producer Mitch Jeserich identified the victim as Angel Cakes founder Jen Angel in a Facebook post.

Jeserich, who described himself as a friend of Angel's, wrote that the baker had sustained serious head injuries and was on life support.

"Some of her people who are providing updates asked to let others know," Jeserich wrote. "I hate that this happened at all and dread that it occurred in my own neighborhood."

OPD is continuing the investigation.
