Actor and climate activist Jane Fonda has endorsed District 6 supervisor candidate Honey Mahogany.

The announcement was made via email and a YouTube video from her namesake political organization, Jane Fonda Climate PAC.

In the YouTube video published Saturday to the Mahogany for Supervisor channel, Fonda called Mahogany "the most qualified candidate" in the race.

If elected, Mahogany would be the first transgender woman to serve on the Board of Supervisors.

Fonda's PAC, or political action committee, aims to fund political candidates who support combatting climate change, according to its website.

"I have been a fan of Jane Fonda for years," Mahogany said. "She's been an activist who speaks truth to power. I look up to her and this endorsement means a lot to me."

The incumbent is Supervisor Matt Dorsey, whose re-election bid has been endorsed by Mayor London Breed, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins and state Sen. Scott Wiener, among others. Two other candidates, Ms. Billie Cooper and Cherelle Jackson, are also running.

District 6 is made up of SoMa, Mission Bay, East Cut and Treasure Island.
