Bay Area foodies still mourning the departure of dearly beloved Italian restaurant Oliveto may be comforted to know that Acre Restaurant is weeks away from opening. Though the restaurant has not set an official date, a publicist for Acre confirmed that it will open around Dec. 15.

The California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control transferred licenses from Oliveto to Acre today. Like Oliveto before it, Acre will occupy two levels of the restaurant space at Market Hall, an upscale complex of food stalls in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood.

Over the past few months, Acre's Instagram account has teased seasonal dishes like pomegranate salad and Dungeness crab.

Oliveto, a Rockridge mainstay since 1986, shuttered during the pandemic, opened again in early 2022 and finally closed its doors for the last time in April.
