1 Dead in Crash After Carjacking, Police Chase in San Francisco

One person has died and four people have been seriously injured in a crash at 16th Street and Potrero Avenue after a police chase, San Francisco officials said Tuesday.

Five victims including one suspect were transported to a trauma center at San Francisco General Hospital, and one victim has since died police said.

Shortly after 10 a.m., police officers said they responded to the area of Folsom and Mabini streets for a report of a carjacking.

Officers found the allegedly stolen city-owned vehicle in the area of Kansas and 25th streets and a police chase ensued, police said.

The allegedly stolen vehicle led officers on a pursuit but crashed in the area of 16th Street and Potrero Avenue in the Mission. One suspect has been detained, police said.

Police on the scene told The Standard the stolen vehicle belonged to the city's Department of Public Works.

The public is advised to avoid the area for traffic closures due to an ongoing investigation. Several roads around the intersection remain closed to vehicles.

The incident involved a white pickup truck and a silver SUV, San Francisco Fire Department officials said.
