A BART elevator attendant was punched in the face early Friday morning at Civic Center Station, causing a brief delay in service, according to authorities.

“Trains were held out of the station beginning at 6:21 a.m. while BART Police officers searched for an individual suspected of battery,” a BART spokesperson said. “The suspect was not located. All trains were released, and we returned to normal service at 6:32 a.m.”

The victim was an employee of Urban Alchemy and was not taken to the hospital, a BART spokesman said. Urban Alchemy did not respond to requests for comment by publication time.

According to BART Police dispatch audio from the incident, the suspect was wearing a gray hoodie and was seen on the platform before boarding a train.

Around 85% of BART riders who have reduced or eliminated their usage said they would ride the system more often if it were significantly cleaner and safer to ride, according to a recent rider poll.
