Named in honor of chef and owner Shani Jones’ Kingston-born mother, whose friends and family called Peaches, the catering company-turned-restaurant is an homage to the Creole stews and grilled meats that Jones grew up enjoying. As The Chronicle reported, her father was from New Orleans, where gumbo is a staple dish.
At the new Ferry Building location, Jones plans to offer a grilled jerk chicken plate with rice, vegetables and sweet fried plantains, a vegan black bean and chickpea stew with rice and salad and, of course, her signature Jamaican patties—customers can choose between spicy beef and curry chicken or spinach and lentil. They can wash it all down with a traditional Caribbean beverage—hibiscus tea and ginger beer are both on the menu.
Jones said she’s excited to open her brick-and-mortar restaurant at the front of the iconic Embarcadero food hall. “Peaches Patties will be the first Jamaican patty shop and eatery to grace the Ferry Building,” she wrote in a press release.
