Late-night Warriors celebration lights up Mission District with fireworks, sideshow

Golden State Warrior fans celebrate an NBA Championship victory over the Boston Celtics on 24th st. in San Francisco Calif., on Thursday, June 16, 2022. | Benjamin Fanjoy for The Standard

Fireworks, honking, sideshows and police sirens.

Those are the sights and sounds coming out of the Mission District in San Francisco, where Warriors fans have flooded the streets following the NBA Championships win.

But police presence in the area is high as SFPD seeks to deter riots similar to what happened after the SF Giants World Series win in 2014. As part of that effort, they’ve blocked off Mission Street to incoming cars.

AlertSF issued a notification at 9:05 p.m. to avoid Mission Street between 18th and 20th streets due to police activity, and said emergency crews are present on scene.

Still, fans are partying in the streets, celebrating the Warriors’ fourth NBA championship in less than a decade.

A sideshow broke out on the streets around 10:50 p.m. and small fires were spotted along roads in the Mission as well.
