Catalytic converter thieves fired two shots at a passerby who was filming the theft early Monday, according to San Francisco police and a local resident.
A woman wrote on social media site Nextdoor that she was woken up around 5 a.m. Monday and saw two men in black hoodies and face masks stealing a catalytic converter before casing another nearby car in the Outer Sunset.
She said one of her neighbors began to approach the thieves and film them. The two suspects then got into a black SUV with no license plates and fired a gun twice at the person filming the theft on 48th Avenue near Kirkham Street. The neighbor filming was unharmed, the witness and police confirmed.
“[They] leaned out the window and yelled ‘film this’ then shot at our neighbor. Then sped off,’” the witness wrote in a Nextdoor post.
The witness said that while the gunshots missed her neighbor, a nearby car was shot twice.
Police confirmed the incident and said a catalytic converter theft happened at around 5:45 a.m. Monday on 48th Avenue, and that a suspect fired a gun while a victim filmed them stealing a catalytic converter.
