Just in time for summer: The Standard event calendar!

With a population of more than 800,000 people, San Francisco is a metropolis with museums and restaurants and cultural institutions to rival the best in the world. And while it’s only seven-by-seven miles, its many compact neighborhoods feel like small towns unto themselves complete with street fairs, farmers markets, and the kinds of experience you only get hundreds of miles away from any major metropolis.

That’s why we created a new public events calendar that includes everything from hyperlocal block parties to sweeping art exhibitions and concerts at some of the city’s most established venues. We’ve also compiled and spotlighted civic engagement events that can help you get involved with local causes.

The Standard wants to help you “know your city” and become more engaged citizens. And, we believe, this compendium of events will help you do just that.

In our new public events calendar, you can search for events by genre, location, price point and more.

We also highlight events we find particularly compelling and engaging, with staff picks and highly curated lists of content. Every week, we select the best events in arts, culture and entertainment for This Weekend and the most meaningful ways to get involved with your local community and government in This Week in Civics

But we know this doesn’t even scratch the surface of cool things to do in the city—which is another reason why this calendar was born: to help you discover a new spot, find your people or meet with the neighbors, maybe even for the first time.

But this events calendar is a two-way street. We want to hear about the events happening on your block—in your communities. Suggest an event by filling out this brief form. You may see it show up on the calendar!
