A male pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in San Francisco Tuesday, police said.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:13 p.m. near Jones and Geary streets in the city's Tenderloin neighborhood. Responding officers located an adult male on the road and transported him to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

KTVU reported that the man was standing near a parked car when he was hit by a U-Haul truck. The U-Haul truck then rolled into the intersection and struck a FedEx delivery truck before stopping.

Witnesses said chest compressions were performed on the man before medics transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, KTVU reported.

Officers remain on the scene investigating the incident. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

Geary and Jones streets, along with much of the Tenderloin, are marked as dangerous on the city's "Vision Zero" map, which tracks traffic fatalities.

The most recent city data, from February 2023, says there have been six traffic fatalities so far this year. In 2022, 39 people were killed. The city has made it a goal to end traffic deaths by 2024.

San Francisco resident Ethan Boyes, renowned as a USA Cycling Masters Champion, was also struck and killed by a car on Arguello Boulevard last week.
