San Francisco software firm Asana is planning to lay off 97 employees at its San Francisco office as tech sector job cuts pile up, according to a notice filed with the state.

Asana filed a notice on Tuesday that it's conducting a mass layoff at its 633 Folsom St. office, affecting employees in sales, management and other professional roles. The layoff notice follows job cuts at several other big tech firms in recent weeks, including Meta, Twitter, Stripe and others.

Anne Raimondi, Asana's chief operating officer, wrote on LinkedIn that the company is "reducing the size of our global team." A company spokesperson said it is laying off 9% of its total workforce as part of a restructuring plan.

Last week, Meta said it was laying off 11,000 workers after scaling rapidly during the pandemic. Twitter cut half its total staff, including 784 San Francisco-based employees, following Elon Musk's acquisition of the company.

Amazon is also said to be planning a mass layoff in the coming days, according to The New York Times.

As of Tuesday, Amazon had notified the state that it will be eliminating 263 jobs in engineering, design and other roles at its Sunnyvale offices. It also filed a separate notice that it is eliminating 53 jobs based in Irvine.
