The Standard list: One billion-dollar startup leads SF’s biggest VC deals of 2022

It hasn’t been a great year for investors—and venture capital investors are no exception. An analysis of third-quarter data shows VC funding activity has been cut in half from levels seen at the beginning of 2022.

Though long the nation’s capital of venture-backed innovation, San Francisco investment levels have also declined precipitously, yet VCs inked 1,233 new SF deals worth $28.9 billion in funding so far this year.

As thousands of startup investors and founders flock to Tech Crunch Disrupt this week, a closer look at PitchBook data reveals approximately 30 San Francisco startups that attracted more than $200 million in 2022. In fact, TeraWatt Infrastructure secured a $1 billion early-stage round just last month. The SF-based startup builds charging facilities for commercial electric fleets.
