With layoffs in the headlines every week, it seems as if the entire tech industry is reducing staff.
Turns out, that’s only half true.
Fifty-one of the top 100 technology companies in America have issued layoffs since January 2022, according to a new analysis by The Standard.
In fact, the No. 1 tech company in the world—Apple—has not announced any recent headcount reductions.
And a closer look at larger companies in the SF Bay Area shows that layoffs may not be as pervasive as they seem: One-third of the region's largest 100 employers have cut staff in the past year.
In fact, the post-pandemic return to traveling has translated to growth in the industry—in fact, rather than layoffs, United and Airbnb have reported plans to hire in the near future.
Layoffs at Bay Area banking, consulting, medical and educational companies are also less common.
