Early morning commuters are furious with the driver of a brand new Porsche who has been spotted blowing past traffic in Highway 101's shoulder lane—which is reserved for emergency use only.

During two miserable morning commutes in the same week, the car was spotted skipping the traffic on Jan. 17 and Jan. 20, at around 7:43 a.m. on both occasions.

“I’ve seen people do it before when there’s traffic," said one driver who snapped the Porsche 911 GT3 sports car in the act, but requested anonymity. “The second time I saw it, I thought it was insane that you would do it twice in the same week, in the same car.”

A brand new Porsche 911 GT3 can cost upwards of $200,000 depending on the model purchased.

The man described himself as a car enthusiast and told The Standard he's seen drivers using the shoulder to slip past traffic four times already this year—twice it was the same brand new blue Porsche with dealer plates on.

“They kick that debris into the freeway and then half a mile later a car behind them is pulled over with a flat,” the man said.

California Highway Patrol spokesperson Ross Lee said that he was “unaware” of that particular car being cited before and said that they would now be on the lookout for the Porsche and patrol the area of the incident.

Ross said that driving through the shoulder lane is illegal, and that the CHP will cite drivers who do so.

“It’s illegal. The shoulder is for emergency vehicles only,” Lee said.
