The slaying of a passenger on a Muni bus in Visitacion Valley Wednesday marks the neighborhood’s third homicide in as many weeks and the city’s second fatal shooting on public transit this summer.

The latest killing happened at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Velasco Avenue and Santos Street, where a shooting on a bus was reported, according to police.

When SFPD officers arrived, they found two gunshot victims. Officers gave medical aid, including CPR. One of the victims, a 20-year-old male, died after being taken to the hospital.

The other victim, a 62-year-old female, self-transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury, SFPD said in a statement.

On Monday a 17-year-old boy was shot dead not far from the scene of the latest shooting.

The unnamed victim was killed at 5:04 p.m. near the unit block of Brookdale Avenue where police found him and transported him to the hospital where he then died, said police.

Both of this week’s killings took place in Sunnydale, a subsection of Visitation Valley.

The neighborhood’s third recent homicide victim, Nathaniel Montgomery, was found in McLaren Park on July 25, SFPD and the San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed.

The last killing aboard Muni took place on a train on June 22 between Forest Hill and Castro stations, and police said Javon Green fled when the train reached Castro Station. In that incident 26-year-old Green shot and killed 27-year-old Nesta Bowen and wounded a 70-year-old bystander.

A video reviewed by The Standard showed that Bowen attacked Green with a knife. In response, Green claims he used a gun he had on him in self defense. Murder charges against Green were eventually dismissed.
