Weeks After His Sold-Out Show in Oakland, Bad Bunny Gets a Mural in the Mission

Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican rapper and reggaeton star, has gotten the Mission mural treatment a few weeks after his “World’s Hottest Tour” played to a capacity crowd at Oakland’s RingCentral Coliseum. 

On the corner of 24th and Bartlett streets, just west of the BART station, Bartlett Market & Liquors now has a large-scale reproduction by the muralist known as @ecxart415 that depicts the cover art for Bad Bunny’s latest album, the 23-song Un Verano Sin Ti. Translating to “a summer without you,” it was released in May to widespread critical and commercial acclaim. Un Verano Sin Ti debuted at No. 1, making it only the second Spanish-language album to top the Billboard charts, and it’s won two Latin Grammy nominations.

While in town last month, Bad Bunny notably brought an entourage of 80 people to San Rafael’s Sol Food, one of the most highly regarded Puerto Rican restaurants in the Bay Area. According to one manager, they ordered nearly everything on the menu.

The ​​28-year-old, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has been lauded for calling attention to the economic plight of Puerto Rico even before Hurricane Fiona caused an island-wide blackout. He is also set to star in a Spider-Man spinoff called El Muerto, which will make him the first Latin star of a live-action Marvel film.
